Easy Beginner Finger Picking Lesson - How Great Thou Art
This video shows beginners who are new to finger picking an easy pattern (OUT - IN pattern) to use to begin basic finger picking. This can be used to break up the monotony of strumming all songs and can be used to accompany slower songs. This is the main pattern I use most of the time and is one that most people should become familiar with. I should have mentioned in the video that the finger sequence to use on the right hand when performing the OUT - In pattern is: THUMB - MIDDLE - THUMB - INDEX.
Easy Fingerpicking Pattern 2 - How Great Thou Art
Nice finger picking pattern to use for songs in 4/4 time. Finger Sequence: Thumb-Index-Middle-Thumb-Ring-Middle-Index-Middle G Chord String Sequence: 6-3-2-4-1-2-3-2 C Chord String Sequence: 5-3-2-4-1-2-3-2 D Chord String Sequence: 4-3-2-4-1-2-3-2

To watch this video in high quality mode click http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4G7HVm4J6Gk&fmt=18 Note to beginners: Many beginners have asked me how to get started on the guitar. I think one good way for a beginner to learn guitar is to start learning some of your favorite songs. It is fun and will encourage you to practice. There has never been a better time to learn guitar, with so many great guitar lessons available on YouTube and around the web. You can do it! Here's how: Get a cheap but decent guitar (there are many good ones in the $150 to $350 range), an electronic clip-on tuner, and a capo. Get a guitar chord book and a book of beatles songs or other familiar favorite songs with chords from a music store or amazon. You can also search for lyrics and chords for your favorite songs on the web. Always use your tuner to tune up before you practice. Watch the lessons on youtube using the pause button and rewind slider. Learn all the major, minor, seventh, and minor seventh chords in the keys of C,A,G,E,D, and other chords as you need them for particular songs. (Use your capo to play in other keys and to match the original key of songs you are learning.) Practice one hour or more every day on your chords, and use them to play your favorite songs. In a couple of months you will be playing some of your favorite songs, and in a year you will be a pretty good guitar player. Have fun with that one! If you want to see a perfect example of the relaxed fingerpicking technique please watch this video of German guitarist Ulli Bögershausen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iG7GVZbxTuA

How Great Thou Art - Guitar Arrangement
http://www.hymns4guitar.com/ - Download the music free. "How Great Thou Art " was written as a poem in the 19th Century. A young Swedish preacher, Carl Boberg, was amazed by an immediately appearing thunderous storm as he was returning house from church one afternoon. The intense rain was quickly followed by an incredible rainbow. That night he wrote the words. The original tune was named 'O Store Gud' which essentially means O Great God' in English. Later the poem was set to the music of a Swedish folk song, and sung in many countries. English missionaries, Mr and Mrs. Stuart Hine heard it in Poland. They translated the words into English as 'How Great Thou Art.' 'How Great Thou Art' is still loved and sung today around the world. There are over 1700 recordings! I'm sure Mr Bogerg had no idea that his little poem would become a song that would inspire Christians for hundreds of years! You can download the arrangement of this song at Hymns4Guitar.com.
